Maternal Health Consulting & Fetal/Infant Development

We focus on optimizing maternal-fetal and maternal-infant development, periods of development that are crucial in the long-term development of mental and physical health outcomes. Research suggests that there is a widespread increase of stress among pregnant mothers that may often go undetected and untreated. The current pandemic has led to a drastic shift in occupational and social structures and, exacerbated by a lack of access to resources, has culminated in a disproportionate number of mothers leaving the workforce. The high levels of maternal stress emphasize the widespread need for mental health awareness during, and surrounding pregnancy.

Emotion regulation is an important factor in the early stages of development. Maternal-infant attachment is one area in which this factor plays a key role. Even from the prenatal stage, this bond is significant in influencing fetal/infant development.

During the infant stage, typical brain development and reciprocal interaction between mother and baby are key factors in promoting a healthy/secure attachment. Enhancing maternal/parental-infant attachment, as well as overall parental well-being, helps provide an environment that promotes optimal development for infant as well as parents.
